Zoo Sunday

Grandparents Season Pass to Fun!

We bought a season pass to the Tulsa Zoo this year and had not used it. I got up Sunday morning and it was so nice outside I thought we should go to the zoo. If I had known it was opened at 9:00 we would have been there about 9:30. But I did not know it until about 10:30 and I made everyone get up and get ready to go. (yes, they slept in, I got up with the dogs!)
The weather was so nice and cool we were very excited about our day.

Of course there were lots of animals to see and Caleb insisted that I take a picture of every single one of them, and some even two or three pictures.

This is what we went to see. Caleb said he only cared about seeing the zebras. Well we saw three zebras and they put on a show. They were running around kicking and playing with each other and even some other animals in their pasture.

Feather Fest was going on so we went to it as well. They had hundreds (and I do mean hundreds) of birds in this enclosure that you can feed. They were very pretty and some were hungry enough to be willing to sit on your head to eat.

I loved watching this lady. Isn't she a character...just touched my heart to see her sitting there while her older son went around the exhibit trying to help kids touch or hold a bird. Not sure if they just don't have much of a life, or what their story was, but I thought it made for a neat picture.
This is our version of "spider man".

I love the big ole turtles. They probably have a fancy name that I should know, but for right now it is just a big ole tortoise to me. They don't let you go in and feed or ride them like I remember we used to, but still a neat creature to watch even at a distance.

I think this was his favorite thing of the day.
We were disappointed in the Tulsa Zoo. No tigers, elephants, dolphins or lots of other animals. As a child growing up the zoo does not seem to have changed much and I have been gone for 30 years. I am hoping they are working at improving it....a lot. There were just so many animals missing and so many exhibits that need to be improved or updated. They only had one chimpanzee and he/she looked very sad and lonely. I have so many mixed emotions about zoos, but I do feel for the most part they are good. Of all the things that most kids do at a zoo we missed and that is the petting zoo. How in the world that happened I don't know. But there is always next time. We do have season passes for Pete's sake.
We still have Caleb and Allie went home last Friday night I think. Caleb is spending his time fishing with grandpa and playing with slime that we made. We are going to see the play "Oklahoma" tonight and that should be a blast. It is held outside with live animals and you are suppose to be fed a great meal. So I will have to hold judgement on that till I post tomorrow. I will try to have some pictures of that of course for you.
Hope everyone is having a great week!

What has happened to the Tulsa Zoo?? I have been there more times than I can count and it was always a great experience.

Are they short on money? that is so sad.

It does look like you had a fun day though, love the pics.

Debbie sure is chatty today, huh? I have mixed feeling about zoos too. But I am so glad you are having a nice visit with Caleb. I cannot wait to hear about your dinner theater tonight!

I believe the grandson had a good time even if there were no elephants, etc.

I loved the pictures. The little old lady touched my heart.

Can't wait for the pics of Oklahoma.
