Our Day In History

Great Moment In Time
I really didn't expect to get too excited about today....but I was wrong. I am usually a pretty optimistic person and today is no different. I have high hopes that this new man will bring great changes to our GREAT nation. I have high hopes that he will lead us into tomorrow with wisdom, respect, and morals. I have prayers that he will remain safe and alive and well. For he is not only a leader but he is a father, a husband, and son. I hope that today is the start of new times and better times. But then again, are times that bad? We are an extremely blessed nation. We have banks, to loan us money for homes. We have grocery stores to sell us food that WE have grown and have the right to sell and profit from. WE have cars in our driveways, we have medicine in our cabinets, we have televisions to watch what ever we want either filth or news, or entertainment. We have the freedom to read our newspaper every day and even comment back when we don't like or agree with what was written. We are coming upon hard times. But I also think we are coming upon consequences. We, WE have bought things we didn't have money for....it's ok, put it on credit. Buy a house with a house payment larger than what is comfortable or larger than what we need. It's ok, just take out a loan. Buy now, pay later. Some day it had to stop, it had to change. So now that things are getting "tougher", "harder", "depression" like, really who is to blame? Did we really think this was going to last FOREVER? People lose their jobs...it has happened since the beginning of time. We will prosper and we will have times of less profit, less goods, less "things". But we still prosper. Yes I am very blessed. I have lived in a wonderful home, large (huge by my standards), I have driven a brand new car, I have more food than I need, I have a closet full of clothes. I am very blessed. I do not have all those things now, but I am still very blessed. We sold our home knowing we could not afford to maintain it if we did in fact decide to retire. WE made that choice. We also drive a car and truck that are over 10 years old. And did chose to buy a new car as our reward for retiring and doing with out. Did we need it, no, and I wish I had not done it now. I hate having a car payment, even if it is for just a couple years and only a couple hundred dollars. But I didn't need to do it. Lucky, we are so lucky to live in a country where we can blog, write our feelings and say what we want. Oh we live in a great nation. We are all so blessed, so lucky. I hope today you are healthy, I hope that you are appreciating life, and I hope that you are able to see the start of another great era that we are being a part of, that we are witnessing. I do think however that I am a little different than others. In talking with my daughter today she said something about him being the first black president. I guess I just see it different. I see the 44th president, not black or white, not man or woman, but the 44th PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATED OF AMERICA. Is that bad? I hope not. I do not get it that the focus is on his color. Am I just not getting something? Have I missed something? I didn't do it on purpose, but I do see a man that is quite capable of leading this country, with surrounding himself with a strong cabinet, and capable of taking over the reins from also another great man. Any man that is elected president of this country has accomplished something. It doesn't happen by accident, and he did it twice. So he has his own greatness whether you voted for him or not. These men, these leaders deserve our honor, our gratitude, and our respect. They in return...need to lead with honor, with appreciation, and dignity.
I will pray today that God will guide and protect our newly elected president, and will reward and bless and give peace to our out going president. This is a special day after all. God Bless America.

I think those of us who are watching the world on tv or listening beside the radio, are having these thoughts.

It is a day of reflection as well as a day of pride.

I agree. I see Obama as a new start, a new hope, and I am excited to see what the next four years bring to all of us. And he is right, we all have a call to service, that is how we are going to make it through these harder times.

I await the day, and hopefully I'll live to see it, when we elect a PRESIDENT. Not an African-American president, not a white, Asian-American or female president. Just a President.

You said it all beautifully. Thank you.

I also see the 44th President of the United States...a man who has a great challenge before him and I sit in awe of the hope he has rallied from the people. I respect his ambition, his sense of propriety, and the call to share in his vision, making everyone an active participant in the changes that need to be made. I sat the entire day today in the jury selection room watching the events on TV waiting to be assigned as a juror and I'm happy I was able to watch, otherwise I would never have sat still long enough. I didn't have to serve and my name goes back in the hat for a couple of years...yeah! For the fish widget on my blog, see my saturday's post...
...any yes, we are so very, very blessed and more so when we realize it...

AMEN sister! Thank you so much for posting this. We, as a nation, need to rise up and respect and honor our new president. We are not a nation divided, we are AMERICANS, no matter what color we are on the outside.

I am ecstatic and overjoyed at the number of people who have come to Washington DC on this day, to take part of history in the making.

I truly believe that... We can!
