The Tag

* At the end, please read about Lisa and her soup week, you will be glad you did!*

I was tagged by Kim
(I love Kim and you will too-
Please give her a visit!)

I am suppose to go to my pictures folder and then to the fourth folder inside, select the fourth photo there. I did! OUCH. Not much of a picture for someone who loves taking pictures. But there is really a neat story behind this tree picture....

You see, we had just moved to our new home after retiring from the police department (me) and the fire department (hubby). We bought a little home with nearly three acres of trees. We had lived here three and a half months, loved it and was settling down for winter. It was December and we were taking the kids and my parents on a cruise for Christmas. About a week before we were to leave it started raining. No big deal, we need rain. But then the temperature started dropping and the next thing you know, ice starts forming on EVERYTHING. As the night came of course temps dropped and then the sounds of shotgun blast every where. It was not shotguns, but that is exactly what it sounded like. The trees and branches started cracking and breaking everywhere. Then the electricity went out. No heat, temperature dropping, no lights, it was a mess. Outside in the stillness you heard the loud cracking everywhere. You knew what was happening...more of those mighty oaks were falling to heavy weight of the ice. The gentle rain that started out helping to moisten the dry land, became the Nemesis around our necks.

The next day our electricity came on, flickered on and off a few times but we were ok. My parents however were not. We took the generator to them. My brother, his wife and two young children were all going to benefit from it. My aunt and uncle who are in their 70's, he with a broken collar bone and she with a freshly replaced hip came to stay with us for they too were without power. Just as they drove up to our house, came in and settled down....out went the power here as well. My husband was still at my parents hooking up the generator and I could not have him bring it back home. I could not do that to my parents. So after he got through there with them he drove to Enid, two hours away to pick up another generator. Not as big as the one we loaned my parents, but big enough. He called Lowe's, got them to hold one for him and away he drove. He got home finally in all this big mess, roads slippery and all. He started hooking things up and about an hour later....presto, bingo, bango, the lights came back on. Not because of the generator, but because we are very lucky, blessed or whatever you want to call it. We are on the same line as the water treatment plant and I am sure that must have helped!

My aunt and uncle chose to stay with us as we could care for them and their house was still without power. We did take the generator over to them and hooked up their freezer. Then during the day they would go home and take care of things there, watch over the generator and at night time pull it back into the garage, come back to our home and stay with us. A week went by and still most everyone was with out power. We washed our clothes, took hot baths, worked out in the yard cleaning up the messes. The temps went right back up, seems like in the 50's so if you did have food in the freezer with no power this was not going to be good. We were so blessed. My parents still had no electricity. But they would not come to our home. Stubborn people. We were leaving in just a day or so for a week cruise. Within 24 hours of leaving their power comes back on, they wash clothes and we leave for Mexico. Beth, my daughter, in OKC still had no power, washed her clothes at a friends house, packed by flashlight, missed her plane due to delays, flight being cancelled, etc. had to drive to Tulsa to try and catch a flight, made it, missed other flights, it was a MESS. We got her in Houston, got on the bus, driver got lost taking us to our ship, they held the ship, we were about an hour late, went through all the process of getting on the boat....and set sail. Thank goodness. We can now relax. Came home, all was well.

Beth had a mess to clean out in her refrigerator.

Ok these are just extra pictures to share.

I'm Feeling MUCH Better

Today I feel better....
I had a friend come over today and she was taking pictures of her two boys,
so while I had the stuff set up I decided to shoot a few shots of the kids.
Looking at Caleb, it appears it was pretty painful!!!

And at times he was not just OVERLY happy about it all.
But look at that smile, he loves it and loves messin' with grandma.

And yes, he has lost his first front tooth on top.
No Cara, I did NOT PULL IT!

These next pictures just crack me up.
Allie has so much personality and she shows it.

There is no such thing as "smile Allie"
You take what you get and get what you take with this girl.

Poor Caleb, he tried to maintain while Allie is just goofing off.

See what I mean?
Sit in THIS chair??? You have got to be kidding.

But I will climb up,turn backwards.....

Climb down because I can...and I want to.

And I might sit still long enough for you to focus one or two close ups.

And if you are really quick grandma, I might even give you a smile!

Now I Feel Better

After suffering a severe hit to my self esteem yesterday. After being
beaten down by some unmentioned people who live in a sunny southern state
(we will leave them and THE state anonymous)
I was in DESPERATE need of some lovin'
And nothing spells lovin' better than this!!!

I was talking to Sarah on the phone as she was trying to find a
safe place to leave her daughter so "she " could run away from home.
AND I could hear Miss Allie causing havoc in the background.
So we put her on the phone and I asked her if she wanted to come see
"grandma" and she just started laughing....I'll take that as a yes!
Pack your diapers girlie, and come to grandma's house.
We still had some Christmas present to deliver because my poor
grandchildren did not get enough this year on Dec 24th or 25th, or 28th.
So after I went to Texas to have Christmas with my son and dil
I brought back the gifts for the kids from their aunt and uncle.
We met at Pizza Hut to eat dinner and exchange these last gifts.

And once again the gifts were a big hit.
There were colors, and coloring books.
There were books on questions of all kinds and Caleb LOVED that.
But the thing I think he loved the most was this weird Rubik cube.
It is actually a flat cube (?) or something like that, it was really neat.
He enjoyed trying to figure it our and so did his daddy!
By the time we got home it was pretty close to bed and bath time.
Allie had already made a bee line to the computer room and to my chair.
I kid you not. That kid know where my computer is and we get
on the webkinz web site and start playing it. These kids are too funny.
But this picture above cracks me up...If you enlarge it, you just might
see that both the kid and the dog have their tongue sticking out.
When I saw that I just started laughing...who is copying who here???
Oh I think it is very clear who rules the roost around here!!!
How can you not love a wet, happy smile like that?
Then Caleb and I read books in bed!
Oh yes, I am feeling much
much
better!
Florida who?

Friday Funnies

Florida beat OU last night NOW THAT IS JUST DOWN RIGHT FUNNY!!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.....leave me alone now.

If you want some real funny stuff go see Kim at Homesteaders Heart because I don't find much of anything funny today...and probably won't tomorrow either. In fact, I may not find much of anything funny for a week or so. So leave me alone, I am not a good loser, my feelings are wounded, and I am a little upset. But...BUT....I am very happy to see a neat young man as Tebow do so great. He is a very strong Christian young man from every thing I have heard and know about him, he is only 21 and has a very level head. So if SOMEONE was going to beat OU, I am ok with it being him....at least Texas was not there!

National Championship

Sooner Boomers/Boomer Sooners! (ok Cara?)
Now back in the day, my dad always told me...good friends don't ever discuss politics and religion. But I never heard him say they don't discuss football. Knowing that I have friends all over this great land, and even some from Texas, I have to tell you that on Thursday night I will be cheering for my OU Sooners team. I have some great fears, we have our star player DeMarcus Murray(sp?) out. dag gum it, why now??? The Sooners have had a really good year, and of course I want to see them win. I hate how the sportscasters always disrespect the Big 12 and often times OU. But there are probably other teams that feel the same way. I do feel they are a really good team, but I hear that Florida is as well. Knowing that I have a few blogger friends in Florida it makes me sad to think that I have to cheer against their team.
Now I hope that none of you will be offended if I say ---Please do not call me during the game....I won't answer. Please don't expect me to be on the computer, instant messenger, I won't be there, please don't expect a blog posting from me, because it isn't going to happen. I guess I am saying, Thursday (I am writing this Wed. night!) after about 7:00 p.m. LEAVE ME ALONE--- IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.
And IF WE LOSE....you might want to leave me alone for a few days, I am not a good loser, and if we win....you might want to stay away too for I am not a real gracious winner either. Not when it comes to my OU Sooners. I do not watch sports, I don't hunt, I don't chew or run with those that do. But when it comes to my OU Sooners, I live for the season, I schedule my events around the games and after tomorrow, I will start counting down the months, weeks and days, till next season this coming fall.
GO SOONERS!!!

Angie Buie Family

The Buie Matriarch

This wonderful lady was my mothers maid of honor over 50 years ago. They are cousins, in their 70's and Angie is one very active and talented lady. Her husband Charles passed away about 15 years ago and she has lived alone and taken care of EVERYTHING all by herself. She is very crafty, hard working , and very kind spirited. Since moving back to Sand Springs I have had the opportunity to become much closer to this lovely lady. I can remember spending time with her and her two daughters when I was growing up. But I have not seen the "girls" in probably 30-35 years. The "girls" are now all grown up and with girls of their own. It was my gift to Angie for her birthday to take family pictures when they were all together for Christmas. I was so happy to spend time with MY cousins once again.

This is the oldest grand daughter.

And then her sister with "grams".

The two sisters.

This picture below is the hands of

grandma, two daughters

and four

grand daughters!!!

The whole family.

Oh these girls love their grandmother.

Grandma with "her" girls!

They are all close in age!
Get along really well.
Two live in Houston, two in Ft. Worth.

And the girls loved being silly and fun.

I loved it too.
